Christina Vela, executive director of St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, will be the speaker at our Monday, March 4 meeting.
The meeting is at 6 p.m. in the museum meeting room at the Boulder Dam Hotel. AAUW Boulder City meetings are open to the public; all interested members of the community are welcome to attend.
Vela has more than 20 years of professional and progressive human and social service experience that includes developing and administering foster care, homeless and supportive services to children, youth, transition age-youth and their families. She has worked as a manager for the Clark County Department of Family Services, a Social Services Program specialist for the State of Nevada and a program specialist for the Federal Administration for Children and Families – Children’s Bureau in Washington, D.C. Vela was formerly chief program officer for St. Jude’s and coordinator for the State of Nevada Coalition to Prevent the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children.
She holds a master’s in public administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and is pursuing her doctorate in public policy from UNLV. Recently she was recognized by Vegas Inc. for 2018 Women to Watch.
At our monthly meetings we focus on programs that pertain to education, equity, Nevada and Boulder City.
Be sure to come to our fundraising events! We host an annual Home Tour every December, and two Wine and Chocolate Tastings in April and September. The proceeds fund scholarships for local college women. We also have other fun activities during the year, be sure to check them out!
