Join AAUW members and friends for our Monday, Feb. 5 meeting at the Boulder Dam Hotel in the museum meeting room at 6 p.m.
Our guest speaker will be Cheryl Waites, retired horticulturist for the Nevada System of Higher Education and Certified UNR-NDA nursery advisor.
Cheryl’s topic will be “Organic Gardening: Mother Nature Knows Best.” She will give us an educational look into organic gardening and explain how we can integrate these rewarding practices into our everyday life.
According to Cheryl: “Pure and simple, rich and wholesome organic gardening provides a food source that benefits the body, mind, and spirit.”
Cheryl is a Boulder City resident and is well known as the “Hollyhock Lady”. (Hollyhocks are the official flower of Boulder City.) Cheryl is a member of BC Community Gardens, charter member of BC Garden Club, and founder of Wilbur Weed Garden Initiative.
Cheryl pursued her studies at UNLV, CSN, and the University of Florida. Her areas of specialty include: Mojave native/desert adapted ornamental plant propagation and cultivation, urban horticulture, and ethnobotany
At our monthly meetings we focus on programs that pertain to education, equity, and legislation relating to Nevada and Boulder City. We meet on the first Monday of each month. We welcome anyone who would like to attend our meetings; our doors are open to all!
Be sure to come to our fundraising events! We host an annual Home Tour every December, and two Wine and Chocolate Tastings in the Spring and Fall. The proceeds fund scholarships for local college women. We also have other fun activities during the year, be sure to check them out!
